Halloween Listening Party 2017: Gathering wood for the bonfire
I shouldn’t give away all my secrets, but these are a few of the things I am working on for Halloween Listening Party 2017. In case you don’t know, the Halloween Listening Party is a week long radio station runs in the final week of October. This will be my fourth year, playing everything from Ghostbusters, to Mussorgsky’s Night on Bald Mountain; basically, any song that has had to creep its way up the charts into our hearts, gets a blast!
Now, you might say, but Iain (yes, that’s my name), Halloween is five months away!
True – but as I’ve learnt, it comes around in no time at all! And it’s awful to be caught still carving your Halloween lantern when the moon’s already up high in the sky.
So I spend a good 8 to 9 months of the year thinking about what I am going to do. As usual, I plan a couple of major audio projects for putting to air for the live part of the broadcast; these I try and keep under wraps (partly that I don’t want to embarrass myself by not getting them finished in time!)
However, I can mention that my special midnight mix this year will be by Hunter Complex, an electronic musician from Amsterdam, and label-boss of Narrominded, who will be putting together a special Popol Vuh soundtrack mix, those German masters of eerie and mysterious music found in the films of Werner Herzog.
We will also have some knockout new songs, tracks from the romantically melancholic Fragile Tom of Germany, some cosmic horror from Belgium’s Allesandro Parisi, and from Ohio, a showcase of the Halloween at High Noon label.
Anyway, it’s true; it is five months away, so there is not too much of a point in getting excited now.
But forewarned is forearmed!
